About the program
The Salvation Army Social Services include:

Family Service Department (294-5224,101 W. Irvington; John Barnes, Director): Provides case management at two Tucson locations to individuals and families. Also provides special holiday assistance and a missing persons program. Rent

and utility help is available on an appointment basis. Assistance with eye exams and eyeglasses is provided in February and March. All information should be obtained by phone before visiting any office. Office locations:

Senior Nutrition Program (792-1352; 1021 N. 11th Ave., 85705; Gayle Way, Program Director): Congregate Meals provide an opportunity for people in economic need to socialize and eat a well balanced noon meal; clients must be age 60 and over; nutrition and exercise programs, special parties and blood pressure screenings are also offered. Home Delivered Meals are available for people age 60 and over who are bedridden or cannot physically prepare their own food, and for adults with disabilities age 18 and over; eligible people receive up to five hot or frozen meals per week; weekend meals are also available; all foods are low in fat, sugar, and salt. Suggested contribution for each meal is $1.75.

Transitional Shelter/S.A.F.E.: The Salvation Army Family Extended Shelter (323-6080; 3525 E. Second St., 85716; John Barnes, Director): Provides extended shelter and case management to individuals or families who have exhausted their emergency shelter privileges, but who need housing while in job training or while seeking employment; program goal is to assist people in becoming self sufficient through employment; move-in rental assistance to homeless families.

Tucson South Corps (620-1076; 1625 S. Third Ave., 85713; Capt. and Mrs. Hector Orellana, Corps Officers): Multipurpose neighborhood center targeting the Hispanic community; open to all youth and adults; offers religious, spiritual, and recreational activities; no social service programs at this site.
